Roof Replacement in Clayton, NC

John and Sue contacted us because their roof had reached the end of its lifespan which was over 20 years old. Our crew completed a 41-square roof replacement using CertainTeed Landmark® PRO shingles in Pewter, giving this home an fresh appearance and restoring protection from the elements.

Upon removing the shingles, we discovered several decking boards that had significant rot damage. We replaced 8 boards to restore a sound nailing surface to apply the underlayment, WinterGuard® ice and water protection, and shingles. In this scenario we absorbed the cost for the added material to keep the homeowners price exactly as quoted.

We stand behind our work with a 40 year workmanship warranty, alongside a limited lifetime material warranty.

Roof Replacement in Zebulon, NC

After a rainstorm, Gail noticed a leak in her laundry room and gave us a call. We were able to come out the next day to do an inspection. We discovered the roof was nearing the end of its service life and we recommended a full roof replacement. When an older roof starts to need multiple repairs, we compare the cost of those repairs and how soon its likely to need a new roof.

Once the shingles were removed we discovered widespread rot on the roof decking and replaced 10 boards at no additional cost.

With the decking repaired, we installed the underlayment and Certainteed WinterGuard® ice and water protection membrane, followed by 40 squares of CertainTeed Landmark PRO shingles in Espresso. Our crew follows manufacture specifications paying close attention to starter shingles at the eaves and rakes, correct nailing placement, valley detailing, and hip and ridge caps.

The project took a day and a half, and Gail was happy with how the rich brown shingles complemented the brick on the front of her home.

We stand behind this installation with a 40 year workmanship warranty, alongside a limited lifetime material warranty.

Meet the Owner

Rebecca Werner is the owner of Golden Roofing, a small family owned roofing company. She studied sports science at Meredith College in Raleigh and started a career in health and wellness before moving into real estate in 2020. She then discovered how much she enjoyed helping people bring their vision for a home to life.

Housing and construction have always been a part of Becca’s life. Her grandmother developed and built homes in North Carolina, and growing up her dad owned a roofing company in Pennsylvania. Working in real estate, she saw how roof problems could complicate a home purchase and leave people unsure about what they were taking on. Her background helped her understand both the construction concerns and the homeowner’s perspective, shaping her commitment to explaining options clearly and recommending work people can feel good about. She especially values helping single and widowed women feel comfortable asking questions and confident in making decisions.

Alongside Becca is her husband Mike, an accountant with more than 30 years of experience, with a gift for clear explanations, fast estimations, and a well timed joke. Bash, their golden retriever, helps break the ice and happily takes on his quality control duties. Together, they want to be remembered for giving honest advice, quality work, and that people felt comfortable trusting. Away from work, Becca loves to travel, and go on adventures, with Africa among her favorite places she's visited.

What our customers are saying

Golden Roofing holds 5-star ratings across Google and Thumbtack, reflecting consistent feedback from residential and commercial customers throughout the Zebulon area and central North Carolina. Clients regularly note our crew's professionalism, punctuality, and attention to detail in areas like flashing, ventilation, and drainage, details that directly affect how long a roof performs. We are also experienced with insurance claims and adjuster documentation, which is a valued service by homeowners navigating storm damage repairs.

When To Schedule a Roof Inspection

Flashing Failures, Water Stains, and Leaks

Failed flashing is the most common cause of roof leaks we see. It lets water under your shingles and into the roof deck, often showing up as ceiling or wall stains. We inspect for cracked sealant, rust, loose or warped metal, and poor installation. If its caught early, most flashing problems are repairable. If you have an active leak, we offer emergency tarping services when conditions are safe for our crew.

After Hail or High Winds

After a hail or wind storm, we recommend getting your roof inspected. On 80% of roofs we replace, we find water damage requiring multiple decking boards replaced, so catching issues early can prevent leaks inside your home. We'll show you what we find and recommend only necessary repairs. If you file a claim, we'll share our photos and findings and meet with your adjuster, though your insurer decides what's covered.

How Old Is Your Roof?

Most asphalt shingles are rated for 30 years, but we recommend paying closer attention for wear around 18 to 25 years old, or sooner for some shingle types. Curling shingles, missing tabs, granules in your gutters, or interior water stains are signs to call a pro at any age. We'll show you what we find and whether to repair, plan for replacement, or just monitor it.

What to Expect When You Work With Golden Roofing

We make roofing projects easier to manage with clear communication, documented inspections, and scheduled work. Our process helps homeowners and commercial property owners in Zebulon and the Triangle area understand the scope, costs, materials, and next steps before work begins.

Free Estimates and Detailed Inspections

We provide free estimates for roofing services in Zebulon and nearby Triangle communities. During the inspection, we assess shingles, flashing, pipe boots, ventilation, decking, gutters, and visible signs of water intrusion. For commercial properties, we also review low-slope roofing systems, membrane seams, drainage points, and rooftop equipment areas.

Our inspectors document storm damage, aging materials, leaks, and code-related concerns without recommending unnecessary work. We explain whether repair, maintenance, or replacement offers the most practical solution. The estimate identifies labor, materials, expected preparation, and potential deck repairs, so property owners can make an informed decision.

Insurance Claim Support After Storm Damage

Storm damage can affect shingles, metal panels, flashing, gutters, siding, and roof decking. We inspect the affected areas, photograph visible conditions, and provide clear documentation that can help support an insurance claim. Our team can discuss the observed damage and help you understand the roofing portion of the process.

We do not determine coverage or guarantee an insurance payment. Your insurer makes those decisions under the policy terms. We coordinate with adjusters when appropriate and explain approved work in plain language before starting repairs. Emergency service may help limit additional water damage after severe weather.

Professional Installation and Final Cleanup

We install roofing systems using premium materials and manufacturer requirements. Our manufacturer-certified installers, including GAF- and CertainTeed-certified professionals, follow applicable safety and installation standards for residential and commercial properties. We also maintain licensing, bonding, insurance, and workers’ compensation coverage.

Before work starts, we confirm the schedule, access points, material selections, ventilation needs, and protection for landscaping and property. After installation, we inspect visible details, remove roofing debris and magnetic fasteners, and clean the work area. We review the completed project, explain available workmanship and manufacturer warranties, and address any remaining questions before closing the job.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of commercial roofing systems are best for buildings in Zebulon, NC?

The best system depends on the building’s size, slope, insulation, drainage, equipment, and occupancy. Common choices include TPO, EPDM, PVC, modified bitumen, standing-seam metal, and asphalt-based systems.

For low-slope commercial roofs, we often evaluate TPO, EPDM, PVC, and modified bitumen. Metal roofing can suit offices, warehouses, agricultural buildings, retail properties, and other structures that need a long service life and strong resistance to wind and rain.

We inspect the roof assembly, flashing, penetrations, seams, drains, and ventilation before recommending materials. Our manufacturer-certified installers can help property owners compare premium systems from established manufacturers.

What are the three main components of a commercial roofing system?

A commercial roof commonly includes three primary components:

- Roof deck: The structural surface, often made from metal, concrete, or wood, that supports the roof assembly.

- Insulation: The thermal layer that improves energy performance and can help meet building-code requirements.

- Waterproofing membrane or roof covering: The outer layer that protects the building from rain, wind, ultraviolet exposure, and moisture intrusion.

Flashing, edge metal, fasteners, adhesives, drains, scuppers, and roof coatings also affect performance. We inspect these details because a sound membrane cannot compensate for damaged decking, poor drainage, or failed flashing.

Which commercial flat roof materials offer the best durability and weather resistance?

TPO provides a heat-reflective, flexible membrane with heat-welded seams. PVC also uses welded seams and offers strong resistance to moisture and many chemicals, which can benefit restaurants and industrial facilities.

EPDM uses a durable synthetic rubber membrane that performs well under changing temperatures and ultraviolet exposure. Modified bitumen uses layered asphalt-based materials and can provide dependable protection where puncture resistance and established installation methods matter.

A commercial roof’s durability depends on more than the membrane. Proper design, insulation, drainage, attachment, flashing, maintenance, and installation quality all influence service life.

When should a commercial roof be repaired instead of replaced?

Repair may make sense when damage remains limited to a small area and the existing roof has sound decking, reliable drainage, and sufficient remaining service life. Typical repair work includes sealing minor leaks, replacing damaged flashing, correcting punctures, and repairing isolated membrane or shingle damage.

Replacement often becomes more practical when leaks occur in multiple areas, the membrane has widespread deterioration, insulation is saturated, or repeated repairs no longer provide dependable protection. We perform an honest inspection and explain whether a targeted repair or full replacement better fits the property’s condition and operating needs.

How can storm damage affect a commercial roof and insurance claim?

Wind, hail, fallen branches, and debris can damage membranes, metal panels, flashing, coping, gutters, rooftop equipment, and drainage components. Some damage remains hidden until moisture reaches the decking or interior spaces.

We document visible conditions with photographs and inspection notes, identify urgent water-intrusion risks, and help organize information for the property owner’s insurance carrier. Policy coverage, deductibles, exclusions, and claim decisions come from the insurer, so we do not guarantee approval or payment.

What commercial roofing options are available, including TPO, EPDM, PVC, metal, and modified bitumen?

We install and evaluate several commercial roofing options:

- TPO: A single-ply membrane with heat-welded seams and reflective surfaces suited to many low-slope buildings.

- EPDM: A rubber membrane valued for flexibility and resistance to ultraviolet exposure and temperature changes.

- PVC: A welded membrane that offers moisture resistance and can work well for properties exposed to grease or certain chemicals.

Metal roofing: Available in panels such as standing-seam systems, metal roofing provides a durable option for many sloped commercial buildings.

Modified bitumen: A layered asphalt-based system commonly used on low-slope roofs where puncture resistance and reinforced construction are priorities.
